@MR3D-Dev Yeah sure, I can definitely agree with that.

@Chris Evry That will not get you a mesh that you would want to show on a portfolio. A retopo mesh will always be miles better than any decimation tool. I am not saying you wont get a good piece, but in this saturated market you need to show your best, which usually a game jam doesn't allow enough time for us

@MR3D-Dev I don't think it has to be simplistic art, you just have to have a really tight pipeline and drop a few "best practices". Like making use of auto-unwrap and decimate for static meshes, batching things that you can.

@dannydances Well it goes with my comment on the art have to be simplistic. A good current gen model takes at least 40 days for a professional.

@MR3D-Dev As an artist (having gone to art school for illustration), I think that game jams are an excellent challenge for artists to work on a super tight deadline; that is, I think that just like game jams are very challenging for developers/game designers to come up with something cool really fast, the same could be the case for artists. So, I think artists should be able to come out with a portfolio piece if they are successful in meeting the deadline--they can say, "Hey, look at the art I made for this cool little game! I'm a game artist!" I guess in the end a key factor is how skilled you are in your field, and how fast you can crank out quality work.
